Trailer of feature film adaptation of ‘Star Sand’, a novel by Red Circle author Roger Pulvers, released

The promotional trailer of the film adaptation of Roger Pulvers’ novel Star Sand (Hoshizuna Monogatari) has been released to critical acclaim following an early preview of the film at The Foreign Correspondent’s Club of Japan.

The film’s official world premiere will take place on the 22nd of April at the Okinawa International Movie Festival, after which the film will go on general release in Japan.

The film, which stars Lisa Oda and Shinnosuke Mitsushima, is not only based on Pulvers’ book, the screenplay was also written by him, and the release of the film marks his debut as a director of a full-length feature film.

Ryuichi Sakamoto, who Pulvers got to know while making the Nagisa Oshima directed film Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence in the 1980s with David Bowie, has composed original music for the film.

The film based on the novel, was originally written and published in Japanese by Kodansha, Japan’s largest publisher in 2015 and subsequently in English in 2016 and French in 2017. 

Koji Chikatani, Red Circle Co-Founder, makes an important and high impact cameo appearance in the film.
